communication problem to profibus with S7-400 plc

babu GGCL Posts: 4 Rating: (0)	Dear all, i am having communication problem with my S7-400 plc usingthrough profibus network. suddenly some particulardrives get tripping without any powerfluctuation. it will happen two times with in a hour.after that automatically its going to normal position.Icannot identify the fault where its coming from.i need your help to findout the problem. give me your suggestion.

dchartier Grandmaster-Expert Joined: 9/27/2006 Last visit: 3/20/2025 Posts: 12344 Rating: (2707)	Hello babu; Which model PLCare you using to controlthe drive, and how are your network connections done: cable, connectors, termination, distances, number of segments, number of slaves/segment... What drives are you controlling, and are certain drives more likely to fault as you described? What diagnostics do you have on the PLC (LEDs, diagnostic buffer) when you lose these drives? What faults do the drives show, and what do the operations manual give as a description of these faults? Are they related to networking problems (if they are under/overvoltage faults, Profibus might not have much to do with the situation...)? If you investigate (and tell us the details of) such details we may be able to gatjher a better picture of your network problems. Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier

What does the diagnostics buffer tell you about these errors? Once again: have you checked Profibus cables and connectors? Loss of contact with the shield, especially intermittent loss due to vibrations, can cause all kinds of communication failures (short-time). Loss of power to the terminasting resistor on the first and last units on the network, and on the repeaters, can shut down whole sections onf your network, So start by looking at all physical connections on the bus, with attention and care. Validate with the information provided bin the diagnostic buffer. Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier

babu GGCL Posts: 4 Rating: (0)	Dear Friend, i foundout some connector got loosen. i rectified that.but still problem is there. and one more doubt, we r using around 52 Drives through Profibus in single panel and we dont have a AIRCOOLER for that. only we had Exhaust fans. maybe it is also creat some problem because of panel overheated. its possible to affect the network. In the hardware configuration how to findoutthe fault exactly where its coming from the network. which module and whichaddress.

Where you have corrected the connectors, do the drives still show F0070 fault? If this has corrected the problem, go to all drives that show the same fault and correct/replace the connectors. and one more doubt, we r using around 52 Drives through Profibus in single panel and we dont have a AIRCOOLER for that. only we had Exhaust fans. maybe it is also creat some problem because of panel overheated. its possible to affect the network. The heat problem should not affect the network, but might affect the drives and the Profibus module on the drives. Maximum allowed operation temperature for the MM4 Profibus board is listed as 50 C, so checkthe maximum temperature allowed for your boards and see if extra cooling could help. One point: 52 drives in one single panel... you do have a repeater well installed after a maximum of31 drives, yes? (therepeater occupies node 32 on the segment) Make very sure of that, even though your first post shows you are aware of this requirement. Also, what is the length of Profibus cable between each drive? Just make sure that you have a minimum of 1mcable between each 2 consecutive driives, or you will create reflexions on the bus that could cause random failures. In the hardware configuration how to findoutthe fault exactly where its coming from the network. which module and whichaddress. If you want to use the HWConfg editor to check the status of your network, then simply go online while in this editor. Your network will be shown with diagnostic symbols that will indicate faults on your nodes and CPU. Double-clicking on the faulty nodes will open the diagnostic buffer for each one, with basic diagnostic information. However, the most important diagnostic buffer will be the CPU's. Please check out this valuable information. If you need help in understanding it, save it ands post it here, at least the parts that correspond to your trouble. Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier

I have 20 drivers and suddenly 8 drivers go to stop and inmediately go to run again. We change all drivers and the problem but still there. We made all the thing that I see in this forum, even check ethernet and scrips in HMI, DBs from PLC, but nothing happen, the problem is still there. Could you tell me if you get the solution? or something which can help us, thanks for your help. Best Regards

ercag Posts: 32 Rating: (2)	In one project we have faced the same problem especially drives was tripping because of loss of dp connection.My suggestion is to check grounding.Check the grounding where the profibus cable laid down.Cable trays must be connected to each other and at the end must be connected to the main grounding point.We solved our problem like this. Second major factor profibus cable must be away from power cables asmuch as possible especially drive power cables because of harmonic distortion of drives.
