Communication to third-party partner through a TCP connection

romeo291 Posts: 18 Rating: (0)	Hi, I am trying to use the AG_SEND block to send information to a Modicon Quantum NOE 771 module. I was able to set up the connection just fine in NETPRO and the block was set up right but now I am stuck. What I don't understand is where I tell the block to send the data. I was expecting to see two inputs on the block, one for the address of the data I am sending, and one for the address of the destination where the data is being sent. The input for the destination address does not exist on the block. How exactly do you access this data from the third-party communication partner if you never specify where the data is being sent? Please help. Thank you in advance.

I was told by Siemens support that you can establish a TCP/IP connection in NETPRO to communicate to a third-party communication partner without having to buy the CP341 module. You have to use the AG_SEND and AG_RECV blocks to achieve this. What I don't understand is how and where the AG_SEND block is sending the data. I have a S7-400H system, and the I am using the CP-443-1 card for ethernet communication. I am trying to send the data to a Modicon system communicating through a Quantum NOE 771 module. The document you provided did not provide the information I needed to realize my goals, do you happen to know of another helpful/technical document on this matter?

Tomcat Posts: 433 Rating: (48)	Hello romeo291, for OpenModbusTCP you don't need any additional hardware - especially you don't need a serial CP (CP341) for a TCP communication... This product uses the functions AG_SEND and AG_RECV internal to send and receive datas to/from a third party communication partner. You can read/write holding registers and you can read input registers. Here you can download some documentations: FAQ + Download. Why do you want to "tinker" something when a complete solution is existing already? Tomcat

J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (412)	Dear romeo291, I do not understand everything but might it be that the Quantum NOE 771 does not support the TCP/IP Protocol in its native format at all? As far as I understand the Manual the Quantum NOE 771supports MODBUS TCP/IP and MODBUS Plus but not TCP/IP to send and receive Blocks. The issue you had is about the destination. Well the sending node usually does not know where the Data has to be placed to, this has to be done by the receiving unit. The receiver has to know where the data has to be put to. The sender only provides the data, this is the nature of the TCP/IP Protocol. Therefore the AG_SEND only provides parameter for the source and the Connection but not for the destination of the data. I hope I could solve some questions. Best regards J_Bell
