Miguel Allende Posts: 35 Rating: (0)	Hi. How can I connect a s7-300 to labwiew via ethernet? I have read than it is possible using OPC or Modbus TCP, but in both solutions it is necessary to buy licences. It is possible to use a TCP connection to communicate? Thanks. Happy christmas

jklm Platinum Member Joined: 12/22/2006 Last visit: 1/25/2022 Posts: 1742 Rating: (309)	Hello, I don't know how open Labview can communicate on Ethernet, but you could explore the following solutions: - using a CPU with integrated PN port and the so called open IE communication. To help you, Siemens provides a wizard assisting you in the configuration of such connections. And a sample project. See at http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/25209116 - if the PLC is equipped of an IT CP or a recent advanced CP, you could use the FTP protocol implemented in the CP.

J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (412)	Dear Miguel, I have to admit I do not know Labview good enough to say if they support a standard TCP Connection too. I just know that Labview offers a OPC COM interface to transfer data, this would be the interface I would use... but as you mentioned you need licenses to use this. Did you contact Labview already about this question? I would like to know what they say. Best regards J_Bell

Miguel Allende Posts: 35 Rating: (0)	I will try the first solution (using the ethernet wizard to generate a TCP connection and to send packets). In the other side I can create a TCP connection in Labview with no so much efforts and without buying any licence. I will explain the results as soon as I test the system. At least I know that in case of problems I can use OPC connection without increasing so much the project costs. Thanks. Bye,

Miguel Allende Posts: 35 Rating: (0)	Hi everybody. I have already connected Labview with a S7-300 via OPC and via UDP. Both communications work perfectly and fast (aprox.100ms) but I think it is much better to use OPC due to addressing. In case you use UDP it is neccesary to "unpack" the data and you must know where is everydata and the type (REAL,WORD,BOOL). But I also think it is better to use UDP if you want to save money because you don't need to buy extra licences as you have to do with OPC. Thanks to all for your comments.
