SATYA SURAVIT Posts: 94 Rating: (0)	Hi, i have a project in which around 1000 plc will comunnicate with s7315-2pn/dp. here s7315-2pn/dp will be master which will connect to MES system and ERP THROUGH SOME PC BASED SOFTWARE.so my question is : here different brands of plcs are there like(AB,GEFANAC,HONNEYWELL,EMERSON DELTA V,SIEMENS).SO DIFFERENT TYPES OF OPEN PROTOCOL IS USED (MODBUS,PROFIBUS,ETHERNET(TCP/IP). IN MY MASTER PLC(S7-315) I WILL TAKE CP CARDS FOR MODBUS,BUT HOW I WILL RECIEVE AND SEND DATA BETWEEN ALL OFF THEM,PLEASE SUGGEST ME .

dchartier Grandmaster-Expert Joined: 9/27/2006 Last visit: 3/26/2025 Posts: 12344 Rating: (2707)	Hello Satya; Each protocol you mention requires different communication interfaces, so I would suggest you start with a survey of the PLCs you want to communicate with, and especially the amount of data you are planning to exchange for each. First point, I am not sure a S7-315 PLC would have the memory and the speed to communicate with so many partners while maintaining consistent data exchanges. Second, many of the communication functions (FBs) are asynchronous, that is they can run more than a single scan, so trying to force too many of them in parallelmight play havoc with the PLC scan time. So start with an analysis of the requirements for this project, before you start looking at equipment and functions. Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier

SATYA SURAVIT Posts: 94 Rating: (0)	I assume the total data of exchange not more than 300kb,and data exchange speed must be in between 100ms,is it good if i go for 414 or 417 cpu?most of plc i want to recieve only,only i have to send data to delta v(EMERSON).so plz give some suggestion and documents which will be helpful for me. thanks for your support.

No CPU 300/400/1500 can do that - im quite sure even your average PC won't be able to handle this much. [/Quote] You wont get that far, open up the technical details of lets say a 315: TCP: Number of connections, max. 8 For a 417 it might be like 64, but you'll never even come close to 1000.
