communication with switchs X200

cricri1991 Posts: 15 Rating: (0)	Hello everybody! i'm student in automation and i have to make a project. The project include two S7-300 PLCs that use the Siemens software redundancy (one works, the other is in stand-by). Like in the attached picture, i want to connect the SCALANCE X208 to my PLCs. We wants, for each communication to one plc, to have 2 ethernet cable. So, 2 cables towards S7-300(A) and 2 cables towards S7-300 (B). To do that, i have to put a switch (X204 for example) near of each plc. I heard that there is a solution called "high speed redundancy" for the 3 SCALANCE. Am I obliged to use that solution if I want that the software redundancy functions ? If i use the high speed redundancy, is it useful to use 2 cables to connect each PLC ? If High Speed Redundancy is not necessary, the CSM 377 near each PLC will be enough ? sorry for my poor english and thanks for your help, Christophe. Attachment reseau.jpg (124 Downloads)

Rated X Posts: 1547 Rating: (129)	Hello, high speed redundancy (hsr) is a mechanism for the switches only. So it is possible to build up a redundant ring. A redundant connection between switch and S7-300 could be done with the media redundancy protocoll (MRP). If you want to build up such a configuration every device in the ring must support the redundancy protocoll

So, if I use th media redundancy protocol with redundant connection between SCALANCE X208 and PLCs, the system (with software redundancy) will work ? So, if i understand, if I want to use the CSM 377 near each PLC, I have to use the media redundancy protocol, and if I use the SCALANCE X204, i have to use the HSR ?
