configure SM1231 AI TC

Using scale but I`m not recieving the wanted value. In input I put my physical TC input, 4 for low and 20 for high limit but at scaled value something goes wrong for me. Please help and thanks in advance!

The value coming in from the AI TC module is already scaled to the temperature it senses based on the hardware configuration. If you tell it you have a J-type and connect a K-type TC, it will skew the results. If you tell it Fahrenheit and expect it to be in Celcius, you will not be happy. If you have a signal conditioner between the TC and the AI TC module and configure it for Thermocouple rather than voltage, you will also not like the results. The optimal way I've connected them so far is to configure the device for the TC type (J or K for me), directly wired using proper TC wiring, setting proper scale (Celcius for me), Internal Reference (rather than external), and weak/4 cycle averaging. My input word is the temp x 10. For example if it is 20.5C, IW210 reads contains 205. Please post your results.

0_Einstein Diamond Expert Joined: 7/7/2010 Last visit: 1/13/2025 Posts: 15531 Rating: (2465)	After re-reading your post, do you have a TC 4-20mA signal conditioner installed between the AI TC input and the TC? You do not need that signal conditioner as it is built into the AI TC module. However, if you do have a signal conditional installed that provides 4-20mA output, you will need to rewire the 4-20mA and take it to a regular AI input configured for current input. For the AI TC module, there is no option to support 4-20mA input. If you change it from TC input to voltage, the range becomes +/- 80mV. Hope this helps. Be sure and use TC specific cable between the AI TC input module and the TC.

HristoAtanasov Posts: 23 Rating: (0)	I`ve done that already but still no result. It seems that I don`t get any readings from the TC. I think my wiring is ok... Done the configuration exactly like you said I just checked it again. The TC works type K I`ve checked it.
