Deleted User Posts: 767 Rating: (69)	Hello, I have an ET200S wich i connect with siemens pg to the pc. And a separate dp module (dp master) wich is active and connected to another station. All is active and running at the moment. Is it possible to connect the pc to a profibus station and then communicate with the plc?

If you have an existing Profibus network where your nodes are already connected, and if you have on one of the nodes a Profibus connector with a piggy-back configuration (see attached document), then you can connect your PG to that node through a Profbus cable (either pre-assembled or built with Profibus cable and connectors) or even an MPI cable. This would allow you to reach any existing DP-master on the bus and monitor/program it (as long as you have set the PC/PGinterface properly. Deleted User Posts: 767 Rating: (69)	I think you understood my problem. But i tried to connect with my mpi cable connected to a profibus node. Only my mpi adapter won't power up. I have no powersupply. But you say it is also possible with a normal profibus cable? Just connect one side to the serial port of the laptop and the other side to the piggyback connection on the profibus node?

I have seen posts here show circuits that provide power to an PC Adfapter over Profibus, but I cannot locate them at this time. Maybe someone else can chime in and provide the information. When you mentionned a PG, I thought you were using the embedded CP 5611 (DP)interface that provides Profibus communications, so that you could use Profibus or MPI to connect to the piggy-back connector that I mentionned. You must use Profibus; a serial connection from the PC is not enough. Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier
