connect PP-17II Pushbutton Panel to Allen Bradley

I'm replacing my obsolete S7-200 modules, and am curious if there is a way to connect the PP-17 II pushbutton panel ( 6AV3688-3ED13-0AX0 ) to a Rockwell CompactLogix PLC.

Hello Jim;

Do you have a Profibus master module for the CompactLogix platform in your rack? The PP-17 II acts as a Profibus-DP slave (though it can be adapted to MPI to work with a S7-200).

Look at the offerings from Prosoft, for example:

I appreciate the reply, but have a few more questions.  From the manual, it looks like it might work if set up for Profibus-DP, but a reply from Tech Support says there are no drivers for AB/Ethernet.  I'm guessing the drivers would need to be in the COM-PROFIBUS or HW-PROFIBUS software, so this panel will only work with STEP 5 or STEP 7 software?

The document from Tech Support does state that a 3rd-party (non-Siemens) Profibus master could connect to the PP pushbutton unit.

Which parallels the reply provided earlier in this thread.

If you do not have (or intend to integrate) a Profibus master module in your CompactLogix rack, then your Rockwell CPU will not be able to exchange data with the PP unit as stated in the Tech Support answer; the protocols it supports are not understood by the PP unit.

If you do install a Profibus master in your CPU rack, then we can help you. You would use the configuration software for Profibus that comes with the Prosoft module, of course. I believe this is Sycon.

Thanks again for your help, and I apologize for my lack of knowledge with this equipment.  If I can communicate between the AB PLC and PP17 panel with a ProSoft module, that is definitely the easiest way for me to proceed.  The way I was interpreting the information is I could only communicate between an S7 PLC and the PP17.
