Connecting Non-Siemens Device via Profibus-DP

[:blush:] I want to connect a non-siemens device (Power-Analyzer) via profibus as a slave.I've installed GSD file in HW config and connected it to the profibus.So, what do I do next? All that I need is the solution and example that shows me the way, if possible. I've read somthings about SFC14 or SFC15, but I don't know how can I exactly use them? of course that I've read the help file and serached the forum, but I think ,because that I'm new I didn't get anything useful. [:blush:] [:cry:] Also, I'm using CPU 414-2 , PCS7 V6 SP1( Step7 v 5.3) ( I prefer using CFC ) and the GSD file is Version 1.00 . I can send you the GSD file if needed. thanx in advance.

J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (411)	Dear alfie, it actually depends on the Slave you use and how you configured him. If the Slave has consistent data of a Byte, a Word or a DWord you do not have to do anything because the System does everything you need. If you have three Byte or more than 4 Bytes of consistent Data in a Block you have to use the SFCs you mentioned, so check this first before you get confused completely. One additional thing, the Slave has to be added to the Master system independentlyof the use of the SFCs. So if you configured everything right the System goes to green. Best regards J_Bell

alfie Posts: 78 Rating: (3)	hi J_Bell, thanx for ur reply, I think that it has consistent data of a byte, and I'm sure, I need more than 4 bytes and I connected the slave to the master system. would u plz do me favour, I attach the GSD file , plz check this out and tell me more about what I have to do after installing it and connecting to the master system, thanx a lot. J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (411)	Dear alfie, to tell you the truth, I have no idea what this device does, you should ask the Company you have this thing from how to configure it. What I can see is that each module you can place inside the configuration requires more than 4 Bytes of consistent data. You have to use the SFCs therefore. For each Input area you have to use the DPRD_DAT and for each Output area you have to use the DPWR_DAT. The way how the data looks like has to be investigated within the Manual of this device. I connected the LADDR to one input address, ok, but what about "RECORD", I don't know what can I do with this? maybe the example for another device that you worked before can helps me. This must be exactly as long as you configured for the selected module with STEP 7. Only the data type BYTE is permitted. Source area for the user data to be written. alfie Posts: 78 Rating: (3)	Hi there, Sorry it took so long to reply [:(] I tell you, what I've done, please tell me where it is wrong!! after I installed GSD file, I dragged and dropped it from catalog to DP master system 1. and then dragged and dropped "Principal Values" from list to slot 1 of the device. there are pre-assigned 'I Address' e.g. 1280 then in CFC, in DPRD_DAT, I interconnected LADDR to IW1280, but the problem is I don't know what should I do with RECORD [:cry:] I can't understand what's the meaning of this: [quote user="J_Bell"] .... J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (411)	Well, this is relative simple, CFC has problems handlich ANY Pointers. Here you need an ANY Pointer. The ANY Pointer directs the data to the destination field. in your case you need for the Record something that would look inSTD like: p#db1.dbx0.0 byte 34 for your Inputs and p#db2.dbx0.0 byte 29 foryour outputs. How this is done in CFC, I have no clue. This you should ask a CFC specialist. Maybe this helps: "Connecting" the ARRAY type ANY pointer in CFC Best regards
