hello..........,

i have siemens 315 2dp and also  a 314 ifm with some input/output modules  now i'am wondering if it is possible to connect the two plc's with eachother.   for instance, if i set an input high at the 315 that i can make it that an output becomes high at the 314.

Anything is possible, given basic information and a bit of wor`.

The CPU 314 IFM is a discontinued model, it has only an integrated MPI port, and 16DI/16DO/4AI/1AO integrated IOs.

So your communications options are:

- add a CP 3242-5 to the 314 IFM rack and exchange data over Profibus in a master/slave configuration;

- use S7 connections over MPI (PUT/GET for example) to exchange data between the CPU 315-2DP and the CPU 314 IFM (as peers); or setup Global Data exchanges between the CPUs, over MPI;

- use the IOs, connect  a digital output of the CPU 315-2DP to a similar (all 24 VDC) digital input of the CPU 314 IFM, and vice-versa.

In all cases you will have to program the data exchange between the 2 CPUs and the I/O triggers: for example if you use the connected I/Os, you would need to proceed in this fashion:

- an input activates  on the CPU 315-2DP;

- you then  trigger an output on the CPU 315-2DP through its program, which is physically connected to an input of the CPU 314 IFM;

- this activates the input on the CPU 314 IFM, and in the 314 IFM program this causes the output to trigger.

the first option, i don't have a card you mentioned

the third option, i understand it but that will cost i/o's..  so i go for the second option but how do i make it in the way you mentioned how do i configure it
