Connection issue with 1214 dc/dc/dc

Hi

Could anyone help with a connection issue I’m having to my 1200 plc. It’s a 1214 dc/dc/dc and I can show it as an accessible device but it cannot connect and I have tried all connection types and still cannot connect. I’m using v14 basic to do this.

yes the error messages are:

cannot establish connection.

incompatible device. Failed to reach connection.

i have checked all FW, Ip’s and cannot find any issues.

Hi guys

I’m having this issue using tia basic v14 trying to connect to a 1214c dc/dc/dc FW 2.0. I can connect to the device using V11 prof but I have upgraded the software and within the catalogue I have ensured the device is configured to fw2.0 in the project. I can find the device on 5e network and can also ping the ip so the connection is there but it is just saying that the device is incompatible.

I am am really very stuck if someone could advice please.

The highlighted bit is important. It almost got lost as it was in a duplicate question added to an old topic.

The PLC has last been loaded with TIA11 - right? That means TIA11 needs to be used to link to the PLC. To upgrade to another software version on the PLC: wipe the PLC using TIA11 and load a new version from the newer TIA version.

It is possible to have TIA11 installed on your system together with any of the later versions of TIA. The later version of license allows the earlier version of TIA to function without licensing issues.

The rule of thumb is to use the TIA version which was used to load the PLC.

The exception is TIA15 that is able to work with a PLC loaded with TIA14 - if I understood correctly.

Firstly I’m now aware that the post had gone to numerous locations so apologies for that.

When I purchased the software it came with the v13 sp2 to convert older projects before using v14. Looking back Should i be able to use this to Connect to the plc even if v11 project is loaded? 

If I was to use a v11 software I take it that my v14 sp1 license would work on the v11 software as long as it was the basic version of tia?

Thanks so much for the information and support. I downloaded the software from Siemens today and have used my 14 license to run v11. Connected to the module straight away with no issues.

i have decid3d to follow your advice and will stick to using the v11 for that module as it is considered good practice.

This sounds like good news. Thank you for letting me know.

It is essential for your case to use TIA11 initially. You do not have to stay with it.

An upgrade is possible for your case after the program and the user configurations are uploaded and backed up. Upgrading the PLC to a different TIA version is not essential and does carry some risks.

Wiping the PLC will be required when upgrading to another TIA version.

As you have stated, to upgrade the program you would need to upgrade the V11 program to V13 and thereafter to V14. Then the user configurations will need to be restored before loading the empty PLC.

A while back I had an S7-1214 FW2.0 that was loaded with TIA11. It was worth my while to upgrade all of it to TIA13, as big changes needed to be made. TIA13 operates more smoothly than TIA11. If I had to work on that system again, I would stick with TIA13, even if I do have TIA15.
