northwest_trail Posts: 3 Rating: (0)	I'm trying to get a firm understanding of how connection resources work within the S7-300. Within the hardware configuration and network configuration for a project I see that you reserve a number to several types of connections, including: PG Communication OP Communication S7 Basic Communication Other Communication Here, what is the definition of "S7 Basic Communication"? Also, if I have an InTouch HMI node connecting to the PLC using an IO Server, what type of communication resource would it need to have reserved? Also, I read in the manual that when connecting to the CPU through a CP module a connection resource is being consumed on both the processor and on the CP module. Does the CP module group different types of communication resources as the processor does (such as PG, OP, S7 Basic, Other)? Finally, are there any documents that you could point me to for me to get a better grasp of how connection resources are reserved and consumed within both the processor and the CP module? With some small pictures how many resources are used when you run over a CP. The resources you speak about are resources for S7 connections A CPU has a certain amount of S7 resources (documented in the technical data). If you take a CU315-2 DP for instance: 16 S7 connections. By default, one is reserved for the PG (but you may configure more) By default, one is reserved foran OP (but you may configure more) The rest can be used in two ways: - for configured connections (via NETPRO) - for S7 Basic communication. Here, you don't configure the connection. The connection is setup dynamically at demand and the resource is only used at that time. You can reserve a certain amount of resources for these dynamic connections (to avoid that you configure too much connections in NETPRO, which could leasto a lack of resources for dynamic connections). Special blocs are used (X-PUT, X-GET, ...) and also limited data volumes only are possible. And S7 Basic connections can only be run over MPI. The total of all configured/used resources can not be more than the 16 available in my example.
