rewa Posts: 37 Rating: (0)	Hii all, Iam in a doubt of connecting absolute encoders or rotary encoders to Siemens CPU 315 PLC, the encoder is being chosen by myself for sensing the position of an object. Based on the position of the object the CPU is to give Digital outputs to the drive controls. I wish to know whether these encoders can be connected to CPU directly or if some interfacing devices are required, kindly provide the details of that, and If my information is correct the absolute encoders provides pulsed outputs, so whats the method of detecting such outputs. Any help wud be appreciated.. Thanks, ~REWA~

Kev Advanced Member Joined: 6/29/2006 Last visit: 9/4/2024 Posts: 53 Rating: (1)	I have used encoders like this many times, i simply connect the outputs of the encoder to digital inputs in order from fastest to slowest, then program to interpret the inputs from grey code into a number.

As per the specs. the encoder gives you on a single turn 8192 pulses and has a frequency >200kHz. You need to use a seperat frequency input module (in example FM350 max. 200kHz.) to handle this signal. Furthermore, the encoder gives a 1V high signal while the FM needs min. 11V to detect the signal.So you will need to use an amplifier as well. Regards.

rewa Posts: 37 Rating: (0)	Hey request you to please give more details about how you achieved such a thing using DI modules. because everywhere its told like a counter will be needed and the encoder can be directly coneected to the counters. ~REWA~

Then you will see that theydonot match! Regards. WHAT ABOUT AN "AMG 11" WITH PROFIBUS INTERFACE? THAT DEVICECAN BE DIRECTLYCONNECTED TO YOUR CPU315-2DP. YOU CANNOT HAVE IT EASIER! Regards.

Because you read it "everywhere". 1st. You should choosean encoder with a low frequency. As less as possible to you requirement. 2nd.A signal converter module likeHAEG is requiredto convert the 1V into 24V for the DI. Warning: It is pending on your application that it will work for you or not. In worst caseyou will not be able to sense all pulses from the encoder. That means you will loose accuracy to position your "thingy" correctly. Regards.
