Hello, If you mean SIRIUS Softstarter, you should find it in your HWConfig Catalog. See annex. You will find the system manual here: http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/21772518 Chapter 8 explains the Profibus communication. Configuration can be done via Softstarter ES. Hi zmzm. Well to be honest i think it will be good and helpfull if you provide a litle bit more details about what you really need or want to do; maybe if you tell us: 1. Wich kind of softstarter do you have (siemens, ABB, etc.)? 2. Do you have Step7 software in your PC/PG? 3. Do you have GSD file for this softstarter? 4.Have you worked before with profibus networks? 5. Isthe aplication running and you only want to change some parameters or it's a complete new aplication? With this info (andany more details) you provide us, will bemore easy to give you some tips to get the solution you are searching. Good luck. |
Keep working! |

Dear zmzm, Please follow the following steps to run your softstarter via profibus network 1. Open Simatic manager, HW config and import the softstarter and connect it tothe profibus network using the *.gsd file you have. 2. put the profibus address and baudrate on the softstarter parameters to match the settings on the HW config. and then download it to the CPU. 3. Put the motor parameters on the softstarter. 4. You should have a datasheet from the softstarter supplier to show you some thing we call in Siemens software like process image I/O. I mean which input bits and output bits for running the softstarter, read faults, ...etc. 5. Look on the HW-Config and then you will know the address of these I/Os. And then you can put them in your software. Regards, |

Hello zmzm; To follow up on Ayman's post, the gsd file you are using corresponds to the ABB fieldplug (which we have used on some of their units, including softstarters). Here, from the ABB site, is the technical description of the fieldplug and the data structure it can use when connected to a DP-Master:for Profibuys data exchanges. http://library.abb.com/GLOBAL/SCOT/scot209.nsf/VerityDisplay/97361B3E83A1DE8AC12571AE0023D771/$File/2CDC192001D0208.pdf Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier |

Hi,Tebanch. as follow the last post, now I facetwo problems:1-how can Iconfigure input & output bits between softstarter and cpu?(I mean where can I enter the register address for input & output in step_7?) 2-My profibus connection between soft & cpu is via cp-342-5,now I want to know is there any diffrence between this connection and the case that we dont have cp ,or not? thanks for your attention zmzm |

Hello zmzm; The selection of the modules (andinput/output registers for Profibus-DP exchanges) is done through the HWConfig editor, by selecting the slave(s) in the Profibus catalog (once the gsd file is loaded into the configurator) and dragging it to the Profibus-DP bus line. You then add "modules" to the slave's address area, that represent blocks of inputs or outputs as required by your dtat exchange structure; the permittes size of these modules was defined by the manufacturer in the gsd file you imported,. You have to know that the CP 342-5 works differently than the integrated DP interface (on the CPU). Once the Profibus configuration is loaded to the CP, it works autonomously, collecting the Profibus data from its slave(s); but the communication between the CPU and the CP requires special blocks that you must program in your application, DP_Send and DP-Recieve. Look at the following FAQ, it has a lot of information on what you should pay particular attention to when you work with a CP 342-5 as DP-master: http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/18208090 Also, search for CP 342-5 in the forum,'s search box; this subject has been broached many times, and you might find some information there that could make your life easier. Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier |
