Contour monitoring error on vertical axis

dtuttle Posts: 18 Rating: (0)	Hi, I am looking for a little help on an error that I am getting on one of my machines. The fault that I receive is a Contour monitoring fault on the vertical axis that carries the spindle. I have a 840D with 611 drives. This is a Windows NT pcu50. The axis has 2 measuring systems, one on the motor, and the other is a glass scale. I have replaced the controller card, the amplifier, the motor, the glass scale, and the motor encoder cable.I receive this fault when trying to reference the axis. At slow speeds it seems to be fine, only in rapid moves does it fault. I checked in the service displays for this axis when the machine faults and it is showing a large difference between measuring system 1 and 2. As much as 20 mm. The parameter for the contour tolerance is set at 2.0mm, but I am unsure of where this is calculated. This began when the NCU had to be replaced and the nc and plc had to be reloaded. Could this be the cause? I know that I should not be seeing a 20mm difference between the glass scale and the motor encoder. Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

My suggestion would be try referencing your motor encoder and linear scale properly that could solve your problem.... you need to reference it to zero position of your machine. >>This began when the NCU had to be replaced and the nc and plc had to be reloaded. Do you have a belt transmission between motor and the ball screw? If yes, you have a mechanical issue on the axis which breaks the axis. You can check which value is real with a gauge, but I'm sure that the one read by the linear scale is correct. Or maybe the break doesn't work properly? You must check also the MD 31030, MD 31050 and MD31060. Good luck Nit

There is only a coupling that connects directly to the ballscrew. The motor is the only brake and it has been changed as well as the servo amplifier. Could the ballscrew be bad? Thanks in advance.
