Conversion issues from Step7 to Portal

wharjm01 Posts: 18 Rating: (0)	I am trying to import a Standard Function Block that my company had made in Step7 but for some reason i keep getting a warning about declaration. See Below for Code and screenshots. Is there any way to get rid of this warning (nag) since it did work in Step7 without having to create the #qStepIP bit as an In/Out? 0_Einstein Diamond Expert Joined: 7/7/2010 Last visit: 1/24/2025 Posts: 15558 Rating: (2468)	To get rid of a warning like this where I need to set an output and also use that output state in my block, I create either a temp or static tag and set and reset that tag anytime I change the output state. Then use that temp/static instead of the output. Also you can just ignore it as it's just there to alert you that you've misused a tag.

I would agree ignoring the warnings - as long as we know what they mean - is fine. I would probably do the same thing until I had to rework or replace later. One thing portal gives you is symbolic addressing options. If you were to rework any of the STL with symbolic addressing to harness even more power of the portal and newer hardware, you might consider also ways to not have warnings. I know when I have rewritten FBs, I found ways to improve the clarity while also removing warnings and getting rid of as many absolute address accesses as possible. Perhaps in the future, you will slowly eliminate those 45 warnings a few at a time as you look to refine the speed even further. I say this because with the s7-1500, symbolic access is considerably faster than absolute / legacy step 7 direct access because of the hardware differences. You might have the same FB for various hardware platforms with only minor changes but to optimize for speed : myFB_s7, myFB_s7_1500, myFB_s7_1200. Good luck with the remainder of the conversions.

wharjm01 Posts: 18 Rating: (0)	Well i am only converting the programs that do not involve servos because of the lack of s120 in portal. Do you happen to know when this is coming out? The programs to be converted are only using very low level 300 cpu's

Do you happen to know when this is coming out? The programs to be converted are only using very low level 300 cpu's I use Starter (for commissioning and troubleshooting) and a GSD for my s120's and they show up in portal. I have heard rumors of native portal with either V13 sp1 or V14. My guess is V14.
