converting from S7 200 to S7 1200, can't be converted by TIA Portal v13?

William_B Posts: 5225 Rating: (1196)	Hi. Converting software does exist for TIA11. You can run TIA11 on a TIA13 license.. you could even run these at the same time. I already had TIA11, so that portion was not a problem. The s7-200 to S7-1200 converting software I received from our local Siemens office - so I am unsure if there is a download still available on the web. Does this give you some hope? w

In my opinion you are better of writing new program that issuits the 1200 system. Regards, Marcjan

Knowing what the converting software needs, it is possible make a few changes in the original S7-200 program that makes the convert process more accurate and easier for later editing. Even if you only have the network comments already in place, the process becomes less painful. Converting a program that fully fills a CPU224 or CPU226 is no garden party to rewrite. ..but there is no promise that the process will be easy - it remains a pain. w

A small project, you really should write it using the s7-200 code as a guide and find the advantages of S7-1200 & portal and use them to make future projects even faster to migrate. A large project, well, I'm with W.B. in that you should start with the s7-200->s7-1200 conversion / migration tool and rewrite only what does not work. Then troubleshoot and rewrite as required to make it work. For special items that are not available, rewrite using a different set of instructions but make sure it works exactly the same way to reduce side effects that may have been intended in the original programming - documentation being what it is in s7-200's, that may be tougher to guess in larger projects.
