Converting pulse to a continuous signal

Hey guys, 

I'm fairly new to PLC programming and I was wondering if anyone here could help me out. I've got a sensor placed next to a gear and when the gear spins a sensor sends out multiple signals to the PLC. I need to program a cycle that works while the gear is spinning, is there a way to convert these multiple pulse signals into one continuous signal? Notice that the first signal that the plc gets might be either a "1" or a "0" because the gear doesn't always stop in the same position for the sensor to spot it. The movement of the gear is very fast and lasts about ~1s. What program blocks should I use or what could you recommend to change or implement?  Thank you for your reply, hope I'm clear with my problem.

what you could do is count the signals a certain period and divide through a fixec number.

you probably need to know what is most slower change of signals what you need monitor as continues signal. Then you can measure change of signals during actual time and also at expected timeout (slowest) passed, it means compare saved previous state with actual to know that change was happened. If any of 2 conditions are monitored as changed, you can set signal ON - move of shaft. On other side you can have also pulses counter and you can do condition to have more precise signal with also change of this pulse counter.

you can use the TOF instruction to generate a off-delay signal. Since - as you mentioned - the sensor signal can also be TRUE, you must use edge signals for the IN parameter. To do this, you can for example use P_TRIG and N_TRIG.
