Could not open a connection to SQL Server

I am familiar with the basics of DNS, but I was wondering why you mix IP address and name.

Perhaps you are not aware that the connection to the database is established by the background processes of WinCC Unified Runtime. So even if you access WinCC Unified Runtime externally via a browser, the connection to the database is established by the panel itself.

Therefore, the parameters you specify must be appropriate for the Panel and not for the PC on which you are using the browser. This means that if you use an IP address, the Panel must be able to access this IP address, either because it is in the Panel's subnet or because the Panel has configured a router address that allows it to reach the Panel. If you are using DNS, you must configure a reachable and working DNS server on the Panel.

Hello Stefan,

SQLLAKLIJNDEVION is the instance name of my SQL server. Normally when connecting to an SQL server you can connect with IP-adres and port or you can connect directly to the SQL instance defined by the IP-adres or the PC name /Instancename.

I tried it without it with the following connection string:
ConnectionString = "DRIVER={ODBC Driver 17 for SQL Server}; DATABASE=NikoLaklijn; UID=Test; PWD=Test01,; trusted_connection=no; SERVER=127.0.0.1;";

But it didn't work, I get the following error:
Could not open a connection to SQL Server [2]. [Microsoft][ODBC Driver 17 for SQL Server]Login timeout expired [Microsoft][ODBC Driver 17 for SQL Server]A network-related or instance-specific error has occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. Server is not found or not accessible. Check if instance name is correct and if SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. For more information see SQL Server Books Online.

I used 127.0.0.1 since I'm testing the connection first via browser on the device where my SQL server is located.
