Counter flashes and gives irregularities (#, number 4) on HMI screen

Madis_M Posts: 11 Rating: (0)	Hi I have made a simple program to count time and pieces. The timer (time counter) works fine on The HMI KTP400,and the counter of pieces is also counting right, but the result is flshing and showing some irregularites as the sign of # or flashing number 4. Can you please help to stabilise the visualisation of the counter of pieces, since it is important for the operator to see one clear value. I am usingTIA portal v 13, S7-1200 and HMI KTP 400 PN. The timer and counter are located in single instance data block, the data tags are in default tag table and the program is inFB, functional block. Many thanks to you for your reply

William_B Posts: 5225 Rating: (1198)	Hi there. I have to make a lot of guesses.. the information you have given is not much to work with. Could you send a photo? I would suggest you trial with the simulation of the panel. Don't use the regular one, use the simulate with tags. This will bring up a table where you can fill in some variables. The variables can be typed in or increase/decrease automatically for you to check. I suggest you have a look at the IO field of the value that is having the strange behaviour. Make sure there are no settings under the animation section. Next make sure the IO field is wide enough. If the diaply value becomes too long for the field, it might give you problems. Start with these ideas and give us feedback on that. Greetings. w

The simulation is fine, only I am little annoyed about the fluctuation of the INT and DINT values from the - to + values in prinscreen screenshot.pdf. I am of the opinion the issue is on the PLC coding. The counter is receiving multiple triggers. Maybe use positive edge trigger block in the coding. Remember that numbers fold over when reaching an extreme: 1. number == highest (positive) number 2. number := number + 1 3. number == lowest negative number This is what seem to happen to you now.. the number is becoming incrementally bigger, then there is a fold over to negative and again it becomes bigger. It does not seem as though the occurance is random - it is becoming bigger, although you do not see all the numbers inbetween "jumps".. Therefore I think there is a coding issue. --- TESTING How to confirm my opinion? -> create a watch table under the PLC project: (PLC project) >> Watch and force table >> Add new watch table Add the precise address specifications you have used on the HMI. Important to use the address you use at the HMI (I think of a 2nd possible issue now). Include all variables in the watch table as you use in the HMI page. Then monitor from the PC and see what happens. I predict you will also see the same occurance as on the panel. If you are using S7-1200 FW4 or S7-1500 you also have "Traces" function. You can also monitor the PLC code network that calls the counter. --- POSSIBLE ISSUE #2 A second possibility.. How is the addressing done in the HMI? Symbolically or Absolute? If it is absolute addressing the link to the DB might have changed. If the changes on the panel is random then it is a possibility.The above test can confirm this. I hope this point you in the right direction. Regardless - let us know. Good luck. w

William_B Posts: 5225 Rating: (1198)	unrelated to your problem.. Our forum handles JPEG (JPG), GIF, ZIP and PDF. If you have multiple photos to share with us, you can ZIP these in one archive file. An application like PDFredirect can bring multiple PDF pages together in one PDF. The only catch is that you have to stay within the 3MB size limit. w
