Counters on S7-1200

I need to create two programs (I have TIA PORTAL v13): When I0.0 is activated, Q0.0 must be activated. A count must counts every change of state of I0.0. I have a flowmeter connected to I0.0 that gives me a digital signal like 1imp/m3, I need a counter that counts pulses and converts in m3/h. Sorry for my bad english and my basic questions but I'm new to PLC world :)

It is necessary to know exactly for providing a good engineering solution. And I guess your flowmeter is connected to a standard I/O card. Regards

How can I0.0 activate the process, yet also I0.0 must be monitored (counted)? Maybe use I0.1 to start process and I0.0 for monitoring? Will you have to handle the hardware and the software.. or only the software? It would be most helpful if you give more detail on what hardware is to be used. The part number of the PLC will help as the version number of the PLC sometimes determine which functions are available. For the software design, I would recommend you start your research in the use of the high speed counter - also called HSC. You can use the search window on this web page to search this. Try something like.. "S7-1200" & HSC as search words. The more information you provide, the more helpful we can be. Greetings. w LATE NOTE.. The flowmeter will be connected directly to the I0.0 on the S7-1200. @William B.: are two different projects. My hardware is S7-1200 1212C AC/DC/RLY.

The flowmeter will be connected directly to the I0.0 on the S7-1200. @William B.: are two different projects. My hardware is S7-1200 1212C AC/DC/RLY. With the RLY outputs, you cannot output as fast as the input can pulse, so add a signal board with a DC output to use for our input follower. That solves I0.0 to Qx.0 follower need. The other is to create a frequency rather than counter- assuming it is counting fast enough to not be in the "noise" level. Convert the frequency to m^3/sec for flow rate. Just be sure to put your input filtering low enough to handle the expected range of the inputs at the fastest rates.
