I have simple pulse generator and would like to count these pulses (as count or frequency) using TM PosInput 1 C V2.0 6ES7 138-6BA01-0BA0. I have tried few combinations of settings but can't get it to run. I get 0 in COUNT_VALUE, CAPTURED_VALUE and MEASURED_VALUE memory locations and almost always ENC_ERROR bit is high.

I have wired pulse to terminal 1. This pulse comes from inductive switch which has power supply 24VDC, but I also tried to use 5VDC from base unit (terminal 13)

Tried configuring module as "Pulse (A)" or "Count up (A) count down (B)". While pulse is generated LEDs A,B and N are off, and when pulses are stopped (machine stops rotating), if inductive sensor is activated LED A lights up with some delay.
Interface is set to TTL (5V), asymmetrical.
I also experimented with different states of SW_GATE but without success.

I have used this module with different types of encoders and before I would always se bunch of changing LEDs (A,B,N) while pulses come, but now it doesn't work even if application is much simpler.

Does anybody know how to set up TM PosInput 1 to count pulses coming as only one input (not as with encoders with A,A',B,B',C,C'...)? Could it be some wiring mistake? Or is this module not usable for such application?

Short answer, but not satisfying for you of course: You cannot!

TM PosInput requires either SSI signals, or signals according to RS422/TTL, see here:https://support.industry.siemens.com/cs/de/en/view/109780353/132722229643

If you only have a pulse and nothing else, and this is 24V, then TM Count would be te right way to go. Pretty similiar to TM PosInput, but can work with this signal as it does not necessarily need the differential signals like TM PosInput.

Thanks a lot for answer. I ordered some TM Count modules, but delivery times are crazy... In the meantime I discovered that simple digital input module is able to count my pulses (counting raising edges of input).
