CP 340 RS 232 can be connected to all kind of Printer?

Gosai Posts: 61 Rating: (0)	Dear All, i want to know, CP 340 RS 232 can be connected to all kind of printers, means irrespective of brand name and type.???? I am going to connect with MARKEM 5200 /5400 kind oflabel printer. Will it work??

Arunakat1 Posts: 217 Rating: (52)	Hello, Yes, if your printer has a RS 232 port it will work. I have done this for few HP printers it work with out problem. But I have no experience in Markem printers. For markem printers you have to send so many parameters of the printer through RS232 massage frame other wise it will not print. So you will fiend some difficulties when you using your printer. Also read the markrm manual for 5200/5400 series. Best regards

CP 340 over printer protocol --> RS232 to RS485 converter --> Printer on RS485.......can this work???? printer is accepting data in ASCII.

Arunakat1 Posts: 217 Rating: (52)	Hi, Sorry for late reply, it was Sinhala New Year last week. So I was in leave. Yes, it seems to be OK but you should make sure weather your converter works properly with your CP and printer. (With out using printer protocol) I’m not sure weather you can use printer protocol through CP 340(I have no experience). But if you can then it’ll work. I prefer first method. Regards.

INeed Help........................................................................ have remove all tickeling stuff and make a simple architecture like... PLC--> CP RS 485 --> Printer( having RS 485 port)... Currently Printer connected to PC, and print accordingly. (PC sending Print dataover ASCII protocol over RS232 (convert to RS 485); printer has photocell to detect object and it print so on) Now I have to remove this connection and I will connect Printer with PLC; working must be in same fashion; Here is the command used for printer by PC. Example: PC ---> Printer -1- Field compilation String: £_1_1_xx_aaaa_yy_bbbb_ww_cccc_zz_dddd_$ £ -> Beginning of the string 1 -> Printer address 1 -> PC request (1 = field compile) xx -> Length of the first field (max 15 char.) aaaa -> Value of the first field (max 15 char.) YY -> Length of the second field (max 15 char.) bbbb -> Value of the second field (max 15 char.) WW -> Length of the third field (max 15 char.) cccc -> Value of the third field (max 15 char.) zz -> Length of the fourth field (max 15 char.) dddd -> Value of the fourth field (max 15 char.) $ -> End of the string -2- Alarm request String: £_1_xx_2_$ £ -> Beginning of the string 1 -> Printer address xx -> Not used 2 -> PC request (2 = alarm reading) $ -> End of the string -3- Stop the program String: £_?_$ £ -> Beginning of the string ? -> PC request (? = stop program execution) $ -> End of the string I can use same string?? I have to use same string?? which FB for SEND / RECEIVE to be used?? can u send me a sample program for ASCII communication?? Pls help;;;;
