For CP524's backup you need PROMMER to read eprom module of CP. About type of cables follow Phantom_75's advice. In this manual you can find descriptions for all type of cables (plus their Numbers for ordering ). I can't confirm 100% that this software would works with XP. Just I can say. COM525 is starting by Step5. Step5 version 7.23 is compatible with Windows XP SP2. In my notebook I have and I can start this com program, can create program. Let's say I can go around menus inside. But I never go online with hardware CP525/CP524. (I have this type CP, which is working at the moment, I preffer do not touch it ). I believe that this software will works, but this is Step5...

Of course you must think for the worst. Look at manual and order cables or find descriptions and build by yourselves. I suggest you to take another EEPROM module and in office with help of manual, to prepare one simple program. Let's say to learn yourselves how to work with CP524 software. Then you would say that "black is not so black". Basicly this is very simple software. The harder is to find necessary hardware. Cables, PG, spare parts...
