Survive Posts: 26 Rating: (0)	Hi guys, I bought a CP 5512 but I didn't buy the connectors. [:(] So, what are the correct connectors for the both end points of the cable ? Please, tell meboth Siemens code. One more thing, what is the difference between "Profibus fastconnect busconnector" and "Profibus standard connector" ? I saw in the manual the code 6GK1 500-0FC00 (180') to connect withCP 5512, but do I need two connectors with this code ?? Regards, Survive

Hi Survive, Wenn you don't need to do special things you can use a Profibus Cable with normal Profibus DP Fastconnect connectors. A Profibus FC connector is very quick to turn on a cable, there is a Profibus Fast Connect Stripping Tool where with even I can make the connector in 20....30 seconds on a Profibus Cable without any trouble. [:blush:] A standard cable works with screws and there you have to strip the wiring by your self.... it is a crime to do that when you have used FC tool and cable. [:mad:] A little booklet where this is even better described than I can do that: Instructions for stripping the insulation from SIMATIC NET PROFIBUS Fast Connect cables So you may try it for your CP 5512 to make a cable with those connectors and the stripping tool. [;)] The connectors are in differend types, with and without PG on top of it. (90, 135 and 180 degrees).

Actually it is required to use termination on both ends of a PROFIBUS Segment, so if your PROFIBUS Segment consists of two nodes, your CP 5512 and your CPU or Slave you should have PROFIBUS Connectors with Termination “on” on both ends. It is actually depending on the Cable what type of bus connector you use. If you plan on using Fast Connect Cable you should use FC Connectors. This really improves the installation time. If you use Standard cable you can use Standard Connectors. This depends on your Taste. It is not recommendable to use any 9 pin sub D connector instead because they have no termination. Survive Posts: 26 Rating: (0)	Hi guys, You were very clear and help me a lot. But I have a last question: Can I use MPI cable with CP 5512 to substitute 2 Profibus connectors and cable ? If yes, I’ll be able to communicate CP5512 with all software packages supported (show in IK PI Katalog), like a STEP 7 ab V5.2, STEP 7 MicroWin ab V3.2, Protool Pro, SOFTNET-S7, SOFNET-DP and NCM PC ? J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (412)	Hi Survive, it is true, the MPI Cable can work at the Baudrate of up to 187,5 kBit, but for higher Baudrates it is recommendable to use PROFIBUS Cable instead. You may try it, it might even work for a while, but it is surely nothing for longer terms. The CP 5512 will work with up to date versions of STEP 7, PROTOOL, WinCC, SOFTNET a.s.o. It is always a thing of the embedded Drivers. Best regards J_Bell
