Can anystandardNIC be used along with siemens softnet S7 to achive online communication with the PLC's. We are usingsiemens S5 V6.6 Thanks in advance Phizza

Rated X Posts: 1547 Rating: (129)	Hello phizza,Yes you can use any standard NIC along with Softnet S7. All you have to do is link the CP_H_1: with the ISO Industrial Ethernet NIC.

Thanks Phizza Hello phizza, You can do the linking with Set PG/PC interface tool in configuration screen of your PC. Take a look at compatibity list too. phizza Posts: 6 Rating: (0)	BeVee, Thanks for the reply. We have got v6.6 running on XP by creating a small dospartition and installing s5 on there and then installing XP on the other partition. But i'm guessing we won't be able to get the S5 V6.6 communicating online via this method? On our ancient windows 95 pc's there is the SET PG/PC interface for the CP1413 cards but i guess it won't be as simple as chaging it from CP1413 to the NIC. Within page 2 of the settings of Step 5 there is theInterface selection. As standard it is AS511 but on these PCs there is the "H1 Line driver" option. We have no idea where this driver is stored or filename. Would this still work for a NIC? Thanks in advance Phizza

I did some tests all i had to do is change interface to build in network interface adapter. It even works with wireless interface adapter. (S5 V7.2 on W2K) You will need monkeyswing cable between CP card and PLC PG port also. Added attachment with some screen shots. Kind regards, BV Attachment NIC.zip (203 Downloads)

phizza Posts: 6 Rating: (0)	Thanks BeVee, It looks like we'll need to upgrade to v7.2x. Does the industrial ethernet (Sinec H1) drivercome as standard? And are you using softnet s7? We already have the monkey swings in place from the existing setup. Thanks Phizza

Rated X Posts: 1547 Rating: (129)	Hello phizza, there is only AS511 online driver within Step5 (in all version). For Ethernet you need Softnet PG 6GK1704-1PW..-1AA0 - SOFTNET-IE PG, but check Windows Version and Step 5 compatibility. But if you useOS newer than Win95 you need a Windows Version of Softnet to get the right driver add on for you NIC and also you need a Step 5 V7.xxx to address a Windows driver for Ethernet. Try to get the oldest SOFTNET PG which is available (contact for this your Siemens sales to get support !!!)

phizza Posts: 6 Rating: (0)	After successfully getting the field PG connected to the PLC network via H1 network we are now looking at replacing the CP1413 cards that we use in the PICS simulation PCs. We currently have a CP1413connected to the offline H1 network, a version of wonderware H1CP1413 and PICS simulation. Has anybody got a similar setup without using the CP1413 card? I assume an OPC server should work with a standard NIC but have zero experience of these! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Phizza
