Dear All,

we are using one CP1623 card in each computer for plant bus communication between AS, OS and ES through scalance switch.

we want use two port of CP1623 simulteniously between scalance switch and PC (as per attachment)  for maximum availability. 

when we tried the same, we got mac Duplicated msg from all PC and network disconnected.

But its working fine with single port.

Is it possible to use both port same time for maximum availability of network? possible, pls provide the procedure or steps

sry maybe I'm not right, but elswhere I read about Driver selection on instalation. Can you confirm what kind of driver you've select - Office/Industrial????? Probably problem can be with this, but you must say if you have tried this or not. Only this I remember, maybe is not right solution.

you can not use one CP1623 to connect to the same Ethernet network for redundancy purpose.

If you want to have redundancy on network level you need two CP1623 and redconnect software.

for my better understanding, can you explain the below points 

CP1623 Manual, it's mentioned both port will act as switch. If act as switch , why we are not able use both port for reduandt purpose. What is the realtime usage of this two port.

as far as I understood this is to build network lines without using additional switches.

So going from Port2 of CP1623 to Port1 of the next one and from its Port2 to Port1 of the next and so on.

The advantage here is that the 1623 does not see itself twice.

But if you go from the same CP1623 to the same switch you build an closed loop and that is killing every network.

I know the same Purpose at other SIMATIC Devices for example Comfort Panels or PLCs. Here you have often two Ethernet Ports but only one Mac adress and only one IP Adress. So the Interfaces acts not like two Networkcards they are acting like a Switch. Its made for creating Ring or Line Topology in Ethernet Wiring.

sry but I'll be start from basic - this card can act as 2 independed Eth. ports (networks) and act as simple 2-port switch. Switch can be also powered with external power for (PC turned OFF) same functionality. I think for this it can be configured with some kind of utility. Probably same integrated card I got on my PG M4.

CP1623 can NOT be used as two different network ports. It is just a switch.

Where did you read about using CP1623 as two independent ports?

Hello guys,

if we look at Siemens documentation (logically), look at that Picture, is maybe very important, that card CAN be used as 2 port switch, so if it can be, not must be so it isn't only switch  or really I read not good? If I'm really wrong, sry for that. But how can I imagine that words?  So it can then be used as one IP on 2 ports, isn't it? If I'm right, with internal driver it switch between these 2 selections.

Update: maybe RM RAJA can post relevant info also.

Update2: Therefore I asked RAJA for selection that driver, probably only with Office driver it can act only as switch, but it must be made investigate, I don't have now this card here to test.

I got cleared now . I tried with ring topology and its working fine.

I dint install the driver separately. when install PCS7 software it will got install automatically for industrial use.
