Update: simply in S7-300 system you need buy also HW dongle depended to your requested protocol type. This must be clear to you for first, also if you need work as Master or Slave. Let's start study Modbus and all important things due your system.

U need to purchase license [dongle] for CP-341 if u r using MODBUS protocol. Also need to install drivers for MODBUS [shipped along with dongle].

if you don't want to spend Money for required HW solution, you can implement your communication by yourself. You can also use TIBI68's solution, in this case you don't need use HW dongle but only TIBI68 can give support:

MODBUS RTU SLAVE FOR CP340 (NO DONGLE REQUIRED)

Again, what MB protocol you want use, this is important.
