CPU 312C v2.0 (312-5bd01-0ab0) with TIA Portal 11

jftheoret Posts: 32 Rating: (2)	Hello, A friend lent me a CPU 312C (312-5bd01-0ab0) with v2.0 firmware for learning purposes. Firmware version is 2.0.2. I was wondering if I would be able to program it with TIA Portal 11 Professional as it does not appear in the list of supported hardware? I only see312-5be03-0ab0 as available with TIA 11. Can I upgrade the firmware via TIA 11, and if so, will this correct the issue? Thanks.

When I connect it to the TIA 11 Pro Station at school, I cannot create a project with this type of CPU. I can only create one with 312-5BE03-0AB0. Is there something wrong with the software installation? I have not used 300s yet (I've only worked on the newer 1200), so I have little experience with these When I try to download I (understandably) get a warning. I do however have the option of ignoring it. Can I ignore it and try it anyways? Will it work?

Your software version might not have it in its list of CPUs any more. I actually found it in a Technical Data manual for the S7-31xC CPUs dated 2004; see the attached picture. You can probably ignore the warning if you have not used any functionnality of your version of Step 7 that it does not support. If you are unsure, please post the warning message here, so we may look at it. You can be sure in any case that you would not damage the CPU by downloading your program. Worst that could happen is that it goes to STOP mode because cetain operations required by your program cannot be realized. UMENCHO Diamond Member Joined: 3/21/2006 Last visit: 10/4/2024 Posts: 10229 Rating: (1181)	Hello, 6ES7 312-5BD01 is quite old type CPU. It's successor product is 6ES7312-5BE03-0AB0. That means that it is spare part compatible and will replace the old CPU. If in hardware confuguration you have 5BD01 you can phisically replace it with 5BE03 without to change hardware configuration and to download it. And in this way will work properly. But in case in hardware configuration you have only 5BE03, this will work properly only if you download it in real 5BE03. About update of firmware, I don't think is important in case you are trying somehow 5BD01 to work with TIA 11. As a school we don't want to throw away well working PLC's, even if they are old. On the other hand, we are trying to standardize our develoment software to TIA portal. So, I really want to use the 312-5BD01-0AB0 with TIA. Is there a possibility to update the TIA library (e.g. as you do by installing gsd files for foreign equipment). Furthermore, can it be that this PLC only works with 32K SMD cards? Many thanks in advance for your reply, Valère

Hello Valère;

As far as using the CPU 312-5DB01 with TIA Portal, I cannot give you a better explanation than was provided by Umencho earlier. Add to this the following table of compatible CPUs and PLC hardware and you will understand that you probably cannot initiate a new project in TIA Portal with this part number..

The only thing I can suggest is to try the CPU 312-5DB03 in the HW Configuration of Step 7 V.11 and see if the existing CPU 312-5DB01 allows the download of your project.

Now, if you open the Product Support page for the CPU 312-5DB01 and look at the contents of the Technical Data tab, you will find that it states that iut can support a MMC (load memory) of up to 4 MB in size.

6ES7312-5BD01-0AB0

CPU312C, 10DI, 6DO, 16KB

It might seem ridiculous for a CPU with 16 kb of work memory, but remember you can load extra documents in the unused portion of the MMC to integrate printoutss, schematics, operating manuals and such.
