CPU 488-3 communication with 7SJ63 relays

stwalk Posts: 38 Rating: (0)	Hey all, I have a Simatic M7 PLC that contains a CPU 488-3.The CPUcommunicates with Siemens Siprotec 7SJ63 relays. I was wondering if I change the MLFB # on the 7SJ63 relays, if it will lose communication with the CPU? Thanks

J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (412)	Hello, the question is, how do you interconnect to the SIPROTEC units, if it is PROFIBUS DP or PROFIBUS FMS and the GSD File did not change... I see no reason why a change in between two devices should harm the communication. Best regards J_Bell

stwalk Posts: 38 Rating: (0)	I am sorry, what are GSD files? Are they the files that contain the relay information , ie VD address and settings that are loaded into the PLC? Because if so, the GSD file would have to be changed to reflect the new MLFB code. Thanks

J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (412)	Hello, well, as mentioned, if the PLC uses PROFIBUS DP or PROFIBUS FMS to connect to the 7SJ63 units and if you exchange these units and the manual of the new units require the use of different GSD files you will have to change the HW Config of the System. Due to this a change in the PLC program may also be required. Best regards J_Bell

On the left panel click on Protection Devices and then choose your device. In the central panel look at the bottom of the page and you'll find the Mapping Files for Profibus DP. Generally they offer some variations for this mapping file (the difference is the quantity of informations which can be transferred), but it is not dependentto MLFB. Maybe changing MFLB you add/remove protection functions, then maybe you have to use another variation (called Standard Mapping in Siprotec manuals). If you are change communication boards only (IEC103 for Profibus), or won't use a protection function, you don't need to change MLFB at all. Cheap andsimple. Why do you want to change MLFB? Mike J

stwalk Posts: 38 Rating: (0)	I am changing only select relay's MLFB to add under frequency load shedding. Due to NERC requirements we have to implement UFLS, so only select relays at substations will have the MLFB changed. I just wanted to see if communication with these relays would be lost by changing the MLFB on the relay itself and not changing it in the PLC. The PLC is being used for SAS and also communicating with the RTU for metering purposes. I always try and leavethe PLCalone when possible. Thanks
