CPU 928 COM port not working

srik11 Posts: 10 Rating: (0)	Dear Sirs,We are using S5 135U with CPU 928 and TTY converter for programmer communication purpose. This TTY converter is working with PLC com port internal supply. Now the communication problem is raised. I checked this TTY converter with another PLC. It is working.So, I confirmed thatPLC COM portis not working. This TTY converter was newly purchased. Old one is worked with external supply. It is worked for almost 10 years.Now I need following clarifications: 1. Can siemens repair this COM port? or any alternate suggestions. 2. Can I use any interface module for communication purpose?( We are using CP143 with since H1 for MMI communication)

aikona Posts: 487 Rating: (36)	Hi It can happen that the interface on the PLC is blocked ... only solution is to switch PLC off and on again. To nr 1 : Yes Siemens can repair but you must send it away for repair To nr 2 : Yes you can connect the CP143 to CPU via a special cable ,but if the coms port is broken it will not work . Bye Eric

For the CPU 928 it will maybe help to place the programming device on the same power when going online.... And as said it might work again when you switch of the power and switch it on again. If not then you have to check if the cable is ok and you not blowing up the TTY-interface

srik11 Posts: 10 Rating: (0)	PLC switched Off and On. Not working. How can I connect the cpu via CP143? Which cable should I use? We are using SinecH1 for MMI communication from CPP143. How can I use this setup for PLC programmer communication? Or shall I need use seperate interface module ? In step5 programpage1, it is asking path option.There is a provision of path selection. Currently it is selected "No path option". TTY converter checked with another PLC. It is working.

aikona Posts: 487 Rating: (36)	Hi If the comms port is not working then working via the ethernet card is not possible . In Step5 you can define a Path Have a look under Editor .. Bus Path ..Edit .. then select a file name for and then a name for the Path ( ie Test01AP.INI and PLC01 for Path) Then in EDIT build up you path start with PG/AS511 then CP-H1.. CP-H1 ..ENDP , you have to fill in you mac adress or IP adress ( if working with a TCP/IP card) If you have to fill in the IP adress ( in Hex) then start from the first digit and leave the last four digits empty btw ; what 928 CPU do you have .If you have a 928B then you could use the second submodule with a PG interface card. Another point : You said that the old TTY interface worked with a external power supply .Speaking under correction ~~the 928 cpu has the passive side meanin~~g you have to supply the loop with 24v from the 'other side' .EDITED Looking at the pin lay-out page 11-15 the interface has a 24v powersupply ,you could check if the interface is giving 24v if not then use an external supply .Have a look at the following document ,its from Phoenix ( don't shoot me ) and explains the active passive stuff Hope it helps Eric

srik11 Posts: 10 Rating: (0)	Dear sir, We are using CPU 928- 3UA12 and we are using Sinec H1for MMI interface. Interface module on PLC is CP143 and on PC is CP1413. I want try the buspath option. Can u suggest, how to buildup the path. I tried in several ways but communication not established.
