This is especially timely information which I recently used because I already was aware.  However, we had a 2nd S7-1516-3 PN/DP fail out of 8 total s7-1516 based systems.  The original hardware revision has been updated twice now, so we could not have the failed device repaired through the Siemens repair facility.

What we are wondering now is this:

Do we modify the PLC hardware configuration, update project blocks to latest revision, and any required logic changed so it knows about the 2nd hardware revision part # and firmware revision?

Then we thought, should we pre-emptively replace these failing PLCs?

It is very helpful to know what we can do.  It is very helpful to know how to do it when we need to.

It would be extremely helpful to know the MTBF for these PLCs since the quoted datasheet values are obviously not correct for it to have 2 hardware revisions to fix these failures in such a relatively short time.

In this example, the CPU 6ES7515-2AM02-0AB0 can be configured as 6ES7515-2AM01-0AB0 in older TIA Portal versions.
