For my next project i intend to use a siemens cpu 1214 and ktp 400 touchscreen, i want to connect them straight to each other with an ethernet cable so without the use of an router or any other device.

on internet i'am searching,  Is this possible?  and how does it works (on the internet i only find info about how this works with router) . 

and how does it works, first i connect the plc to my laptop with ethernet cable and program it,  then i connect touchscreen to my laptop with ethernet cable and program it,  then i connect plc straight to ktp touchscreen and it works immediately? 

 and that internet cable to i need to be cross over or straight (i intend to use this 6XV1850-2GH10) 

can anyone tell me something about this

That's no problem, you can do that.

You just have to remember:
With a direct connection without a router or switch troubleshooting is difficult because you can not connect additionally with the PC / laptop.
You then always have to connect with the PG / laptop to only one device and disconnect thereby the connection between HMI and PLC.

If you have a mistake in programming, troubleshooting will be difficult.

To confirm - no cross-over cable is needed. The same cable used to program the device, is used to link PLC and HMI.

A suggestion to counter this (very real) issue: Buy a modem that has multiple Ethernet ports and is wi-fi capable. Any of the ones you can buy from an IT shop will do. It does not need to be industrial-grade for use in the commissioning phase.

Each member in our controls-design team has one (with a standard Ethernet cable) as part of our standard kit. Devices are temporarily connected to the modem - without configuration changes. The bonus is that you can link wireless to PLC and HMI.

I would recommend not using wireless connection when updating the HMI firmware. Later models HMI can be updated by USB key - this is the best option in my opinion.

 1. If you use a switch(No need router), your Laptop, PLC, HMI all in a network. You do not need to plug in/out the net cable. KTP 400 has only one RJ45 port. HMI/PLC with two rj45 connection point reduces the hastle.

2. Its just a ethernet cable. You can purchase 2m/3m LAN cable from market. It wont be that expensive.
