We have a small challenge about which you may please advise us.

We have a CPU 317-2 PN/DP which we are already using for control of a de-dusting system. This CPU is a standalone PLC. It is communicating with Profibus to six slaves. 

The challenge is we need to introduce a CPU416-3 DP to be the main PLC. Our preference is that we do not have to reprogram the de-dusting system on the S7 400 PLC. 

Questions are;

Can we possibly connect two networks on the same DP port?

If that is possible, can we have the CPU317-2 DP as a master on one network for the six slaves and then a slave to the CPU416-3 DP?

Any other options, please advise us.

which CPU are you using exactly? Please send us the MLFB

For example checking the technical date of the CPU317-2 PN/DP, 1 MB  you get informations about the interfaces that can be used.

Via one technical network more than one logical networks could be realized.

If you want to read or write data from time to time there would be the option to use "S7 communication" via Put / Get Options.

The same interface within one PLC could not work as a DP-Master and a DP-Slave at the same time.
