Creating a User Archive

Debbie Posts: 6 Rating: (0)	Hello, I am working with WinCC Version 6 Sp3, and I want to create a recipe database. I readin the documentationwhich says to "Start the Editor User Archives from the WinCC Explorer". What am I doing wrong or missing since I dont see a field for "user archives" in WinCC explorer? In WinCC computer properties I do have User Archive selected in the startup tab, and I did install the WinCC Archive configuration tool from the WinCC options CD. Any help you can provide would be most appreciated.

Salma Gold Member Joined: 9/27/2005 Last visit: 11/27/2007 Posts: 1398 Rating: (151)	TheArchive Configuration Tool relates to the Tag Logging Editor and not the User Archive Editor. You install User Archives from the WinCC CD, just do aUser-Defined install and check the box under Options -> User Archives. However be aware that this is a licensed option so you will need to buy the User Archive licence to use it.

Debbie Posts: 6 Rating: (0)	Thank you for the reply. I wasnt aware of the fact that I would need to purchase a license for this. Be that as it may, I suppose it could be arranged. My concern then would be that it does or does not do what I think it will. What I am looking for is a basic recipe storage and editing system with a simple user interface. As an example, I would create a recipe for chocolate chip cookies, peanut butter cookies and so on. The recipe would contain pounds of sugar, cups of chocolate chips, and so on. The operator would click a button or select chocolate chip cookies from a drop down list and all the recipe values would be loaded into WinCC tags and the written to the PLC. Tomorrow, they would select oatmeal. A person with administtrator privelege would be able to edit and create new recipes. Pressing a button would download, save and/or createthe recipe. Could this be done easily with "User archives" without having to write a bunch of code? Would I be able to do some preliminary testing to see if it would work in my application without a license, assuming I would buy one once I am comfortable that it will work the way I want it too? One thing I have done before with other HMI packages is to say create a picture graphic with say 10 data fields. One for pounds of sugar, cups of chocolate, the recipe name, and so on. The screen has a button for opening and selecting recipes, and also a button for saving recipes (write recipe values to excel or access), and another button for downloading to the PLC. I used script DDE commands to read and write the data to and from Excel. Could I do this easily in WinCC? Thank You!

It usually needs little or no scripting as all handling is done via an ActiveX control and control tags. There is an example project on the Comprehensive Support CD. If you do not have this then send me your e-mail address in a private message and I will e-mail you the project. I don't know if it runs in demo mode but you could always try it. Regarding your second question, WinCC can easily communicate real-time with Excel using OPC. DDE is pretty much obsolete and has been superceded by OPC. You can find examples on how to do this in the WinCC manual. Just do a search for "WinCC AND Excel AND OPC".

I've configured recipes in WinCC in the past without User Archives, and it went pretty much as you said: several I/O Fields in a screen, with the option of storing and recovering the values.There were reportsonhow much of each item had been consumed, which recipe was being used at each time, and how it was configured at the time.It was a rather simple recipe system, though, and it still took quite a lot of scripting. Reuben Posts: 70 Rating: (13)	Just tested the app because I haven't tried it in recent versions of WinCC. On my system there are some "issues" if you try to use it when WinCC runtime is not active (although you aren't really supposed to use it if WinCC runtime is not active as you cannot capture/apply recipes). Seems ok if launched from WinCC runtime.
