thomasy Posts: 1 Rating: (0)	Hello, In SCL I would like to access data in data block from function. For example I have function "Scale", and few data block ("Axis1"," Axis2",...). I would like that input parameter of function is data_block, and that in function I could still access variables in symbolic format. For example: (function call) Scale(Axis:=Axis1); Scale(Axis:=Axis2); (parameter access in function) Axis.position:=Axis.position/2; (position is member variable of Axis1 DB) I have try to solve problem with BLOCK_DB input variable, but it doesnt allow symbol variable access. What is the difference in this case bettween BLOCK_DB and ANY type. Thank you for reply!

Aret Posts: 2348 Rating: (259)	Sorry to say - this is impossible. When you use indirect addressing to access DB this way you lose symbolic access. Use UDT as input or use temp variable, that has same struct as your DB, then you can do following temp_var := DB1.Axis; .... //all operations executed on temp_var DB1.Axis := temp_var. Which way is better depends on overall program design.
