Hello Ahmet; Please, one question before we go further with your request: What software on your laptop will be doing the actual data exchange with the PLC has a great impact on the solutions proposed. Soyou should decide if youplan to create your own driver, in C perhaps, orif you plan to use OPC to an Excel sheet, or another package from Siemens or a 3rd-party. As far as connecting without a switch, it is possible if there are no other partner on the network; you must then use an Ethernet cross-cable instead of the regular Ethernet cable from Radio Shack. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethernet_crossover_cable The diagram shows how pins 3 and 6 hold a pair of coloured wires (orange and orange-white, for example)surrounding pins 4 and 5( blue and blue-white). Note that you can purchase these cross-cables on the market, simply specify them. Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier |

Thanks for your reply dchartier, 1) Let me confirm your answer about direct connection bw PLC and Laptop. If I use Scalance switch between PLC and Laptop, I can use regular ethernet cable. If I connect my PLC directly to the Laptop, I need to use cross over ethernet cable. Am I right? 2) As of now, I'm trying to understand my options and implement at least a few of them. In a near future, I need to implement one of them in my project. Currently, I'm developing pure control side with PLC and in near future, I need to make a software in PC or Laptopcommunicated with my PLC, Process data. I'm trying to run Fetch/Write with FB210/FB220 and OPC server. I'm trying to follow upthis manualand example, no success yet. On PC side I'm using OPC scout to test it. For long run, I may decide to write a C# or Visual Basic code to do this task. Can you advice me a manual or an example to follow up this option? I'm trying to learn what are my all options, which one is better and easier to implement. I really appreciate if you briefly evaluate all options. Pros and Cons? Thanks

Hi AhmetTan, [quote user"AhmetTan"] 1) Let me confirm your answer about direct connection bw PLC and Laptop. If I use Scalance switch between PLC and Laptop, I can use regular ethernet cable. If I connect my PLC directly to the Laptop, I need to use cross over ethernet cable. Am I right? I think you need no cross over cable, because a lot network cards/interfaces have a automaticlycross switch inside.Check your options from the network card. Point 2: I think OPC is a little bitmore complex than a lot of people want to recognize. Because there are asome options and rights, that you have to change in the operating system(--> COM interface and user rights). I think an easy methode is to useWinCC flexible with the add-on OPC-Server and the you can decide your own OPC client in excel. An other possibility, I think, you can find in Simatic Net. In Simatic Net there is an OPC server, you wil need. |
