Data Packet format on IE using MAC addresses

nevaland Experienced Member Joined: 12/23/2008 Last visit: 10/13/2024 Posts: 40 Rating: (0)	Hello I am using CP 343-1 (6GK7343-1EX30-0XE0) as a communication partner of a remote S7-300 communicating with S7-400H at another location. I have created an S7 connection communicating over MAC addresses (on Plant Bus) after adding them to a multiproject and merging the connections by assigning same S7 Subnet ID's. The problem that I'm having is that I am getting VLAN tag information in packet (of 802.1Q type) that is generated from CP 343 of remote station. In our case, remote station is connected with JumboSwitches from TCCOM which are creating a main backbone network. These JumboSwitches do not support QoS packets of Priority 7 and it discards them. Apparently, its clear to me that there is no place from where I can define or configure in CP 343-1 that it shouldn't assign data packets VLAN ID or QoS Priority 7. nevaland Experienced Member Joined: 12/23/2008 Last visit: 10/13/2024 Posts: 40 Rating: (0)	Hello J_Bell I'm not using this CP in PROFINET IO or CBA mode, i'm only using it as an interface for my S7 connection. Siemens Tech support are saying to update the firmware of CP from version to 2.1 to 2.2 and reconfigure for LLDP and DCP frames from CP properties in Step7 5.4 SP5. Im trying this.

The CP is still sending packets with VLAN Tag 0 which our JumboSwitch is unable to understand. Few more points that I need to clear; -I'm using 315 2PN/DP and the PN port on CPU is not interfaced to any network, only CP 343-1 is connected -I'm not using PROFINET anywhere -Our backbone works on layer 2 and I have created S7 connection between 300 and 400H Is there any chance that CPU's PROFINET component via a virtual bridge is sending tagged packets via the CP? It seems its not possible since im not using PROFINET on CP or on CPU. Any ideas?

I tested replacing my original CPU with 313C (CP still interfacing my remote station) and tested the packets again, in that case, I did not receive any packets having PROFINET VLAN header. This is strange, as PROFINET is altogether disabled (on CPU & CP) why did I receive the VLAN tag in case of 315 2PN/DP and not in 313C with CP 343 still in place..?

J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (412)	Hello, I am sorry, but I have to admit, I have no clue. Maybe we have one point to try still... have you ever tried to configure your CP 343-1 EX 30 as a CP 343-1 EX 20? This CP is not capable of doing PN at all, so I would be really curious if the CP would still send its PN telegrams... even so the CP is configured as CP without any PN capability. On the other hand I would really recommend contacting the international customer support again to encourage them to contact the development or they’re system test to check this behavior.
