"Date/Time" area pointer and "Date/Time PLC" global area pointers

Sasongko Posts: 87 Rating: (0)	Dear Expert, I want to replace MP277 to TP1200. The eksisting PLC is PLC S7-200. I have migrated a WinCC Flexible SP3 project to TIA Portal V13. The project have migrated comppletely. When I compile the project, there is a Error : "The area pointer 'Date/time' is invalid. The "Date/Time" and "Date/Time PLC" global area pointers cannot be set at the same time." I don't know so much about this case, because the original project has assigned The Date/Time at Area Pointer and Date/Time PLC at Global Area pointers. Can someone help me please? Murof Platinum Expert Joined: 8/3/2009 Last visit: 10/4/2024 Posts: 13851 Rating: (1748)	Hello Sasongko ists a System behaviour in TIA Portal Visualisatoin Panels. you cannot use the two Area Pointers on the same device or the same Connection. The "Date/Time" manages that the Panel is Date/Time Master. (HMI-> PLC) the "Date/Time PLC" manages that the PLC is Date/Time Master. (PLC->HMI) So its iin most cases unlogical to use both at one time. in Most Cases the PLC has the Master Time so the Date/Time PLC is used much more than the other. So it depends on your Usecase. If you use TIA V13 SP1 and use a V11 Image then you cannot use the innovations of the new versions and the new Versions are much more stable then V11 Image. And as i wrote in my first post here, in almost every usecase its not logically to use both of this area pointers at one time because in this case no one of your devices is the Time Master and if you select the time interval to short the time runs away.... HMI is master anyway. HMI receive date/time from PLC and HMI transfer date/time information to PLC. There is not required for the transferred date/time from HMI to become a date/time on the PLC. There is special command TODW (S7-200) or WR_SYS_T (S7-1200) for this, BUT(!) date/time information can be read from HMI for different purposes. In itself, the transmission of such information does not contradict each other. Programmers have faced a footstep due unnecessary innovations of Siemens creatives. Once again.

Nicolayy What is the term of "Date/Time Master"? Here master is the "source" device which provides date and time for the clients. Nicolayy HMI is master anyway. Definitely no. Usually the time of PLC is more accurate than time of HMI. So if no time synchronization from e.g. NTP server, I would use PLC as master. Nicolayy HMI receive date/time from PLC and HMI transfer date/time information to PLC. There is not required for the transferred date/time from HMI to become a date/time on the PLC. In itself, the transmission of such information does not contradict each other. Again, the idea is not to use both ways for the same two devices (PLC and HMI). Murof Platinum Expert Joined: 8/3/2009 Last visit: 10/4/2024 Posts: 13851 Rating: (1748)	Hello If you work with PLC alarms, or Diagnostic view or other Tmestampls out of the PLC or you have a NTP Serve rin the System then you should not use the Area Pointer for time Synchronisation because you will not get a suitable result.
