Delete / archiving of project / project folder not possible / error

Silent Bob Posts: 836 Rating: (100)	Hi, recently I was facing the problem that I was not able to delete a project, again. Actually it is happening quite often to me, so I want to share my solution. Problem: Sometimes it is happening that you can't delete a project (that is containing WinCC) with Simatic Manager. Siamtic Manager tells that there are other applications using the project and quits the process (also happening when archiving a project). When you try to delete the project folder from windows explorer you will also get a error message. Also rebooting the computer is not working (but it should be tried first). According to my experience the reason it that Microsoft SQL Server is still using some database file of the WinCC project. Solution: The solution is to stop the SQL service, deleting the project, start the service again and to reboot the computer. I will show you how do do this on the example of PCS 7 7.1 SP3 with Micosoft SQL Server 2005. - Open the program "Start > Programs > Micosoft SQL Server 2005 > Configuration Tools > SQL Server Configuration Manager" - On the left window side select "SQL Server 2005 Services" - Stop the service "SQL Server (WINCC) - Now you should be able to deletethe project (if not, just stop the other services) - Startthe service - To be shure everything is running fine I recommend to restart the computer With this method I was always able to delete and archive projects. For older SW versions wich are using SQL Server 2003 the workaround is the same, but you have to look in another place to stop the service. As far as I remember you can find the tool in the system tray in the right corner of the task bar. Have fun deleting projects.

rezvani Posts: 10 Rating: (0)	Hello If execute " RESET_WinCC" file,after WinCC connection to project terminate and after can delet project. I sometimes apply this an no problem. Best Regards.

So, Silent bob have reason, and his solution is usefull on critical situations, You must know that If you try to stop the service from the SQL Server Configuration Manager and it say that you don't have permissions. One alternative is to stop the services directly from the Panel Control >> Administrative Tools >> Services,

Previously, everything works fine. I am able to do archiving without stopping the WinCC SQL Server as you have instructed. Any other thing that I can check to prevent this from happening? Thanks a lot.

The SQL archive will be generated in your project folder. when you deactivate, the services not being shutdown and still using by background processes. Normally engineering station should only do OS Simulation or OS Client runtime , but not OS server.

I have a multiproject, but only 1 of the projects have the .ldf and .mdf files which causes the error when I try to archive the multiproject. How do I undo having these files? I've read it is not advisable just to delete these files manually. All I want is to archive the multiproject without stopping the SQL server.. Thank you.
