Speed = Way / Time,

so your formula should be L / (t2 - t1)

you can also have more accuracy with a longer way between the sensors.

The S7-1200 controller RD_SYS_T function returns a nanosecond, but it seems to me that this is unrealistic. What time accuracy can be achieved in the S7-1200 PLC?

The resolution of the clock might be1 ns and I don't see something unusuall here. But accuracy of measurement can't be told from this. There're many other factors.

In case you will move to S7-1200 this can give you some directions.
