Difference between Runtime and Simulation buttons for HMI

pavans Posts: 81 Rating: (0)	Hello Everyone, I am trying to test my HMI program virtually for s71200 1214 C AC/DC/RLY CPU, I mean I dont have HMI screen with me I programmed it and I used the simulator button next to upload button. But when I click the buttons that I created in my HMI SCREEN it is not activating the corresponding TAG. Please help me out I am also confused between simulation & Runtime buttons, Please let me know how to use these

Please help me out I am also confused between simulation & Runtime buttons, Please let me know how to use these Hi. The two buttons next to upload is "start simulation" and "start runtime on PC". What I suggest for you is to use "simulation with tag simulator" - see JPEG for detail. There at least you have the ability to declare variables in the table that you want to manipulate as if you are the PLC. "start simulation" is only really good to see how internal to the HMI variables (tags) react. All the PLC connected tags are not even simulated / shown. "simulation with tag simulator" is at least trying to show something for the PLC connected tags. With "start runtime on PC" you can simulate the HMI while your PC is actually connected to the PLC. Your PC becomes the real life HMI. The trouble with that is that you need the proper WinCC licensing. BASIC license will not work. Have a look if "simulation with tag simulator" does not offer what you need. w Attachment Visual clue_Simulating with tag simulator.jpg (1136 Downloads)

For S7 1200 1214 CPU the simulation button is disabled and for some s7 1500 series PLC's it is enabling. If possible can you please tell me is there any way that we can test & make sure our HMI program is working fine?? Please help me

Please help me If you have TIA with Step7 license, it is possible to make a simulation of the PLC. This however does not help you. Follow the directions I have given you in the picture. See what you you have available. Even as is you will now be able to see results in tags that is linked to the PLC. You will see you have a table now where you can add tags that you would want to manipulate. Through the table you simulate what you expect from the PLC. THAT is the best I know how to help you - I do not own advace WinCC license. Play around with the "simulate with tag" and come back with pictures if you still have questions... but do try to get it working first. For now.. cheers. w

In the 2nd & 3rd pictures of the zip file, I programmed for the start button in the HMI screen to set that TAG. Please let me know if I went wrong anywhere. Thanks, pavan The pictures were helpful, thank you. The simulation of the HMI is never linked to the PLC. Only when you have "Runtime running on PC" is it possible to connect to the PLC (or a simulated PLC). Sorry - with what you have you will not be able to substitute the HMI with a program running on the PLC. I might however still be wrong - you are welcome to search these forum pages for a different result or wait for an expert to arrive to your post. The table is a stand-in for the PLC (fact not opinion). You can manipulate tags in the table as if you are the PLC. See if this can work for you or not. But still go through these forum pages and prove my opinion wrong (encouragement not a challange). Greetings. w
