difference between sensor and transducer????????????

well i want to know the difference between a sensor and a transducer???? please

Sensor is a device which is is generally used to detect the changes in the process parameters or any physical stimulus. whereas Transducer is a device which generally converts one form of energy into another, if you go by the dictionary definition of transducer .

well this is what i have figured out.. if i say sensor . its something used to get feed back from the process. such as process variables like temperature, pressure , level , flow, density etc,. but when talking about transducer its in general a device which is used to convert one quantity into other. usually electrical. so i would say .

for example consider a pressure sensor: which uses a diaphragm to measure the pressure. now i would call this setup as a sensor because i am using it to measure pressure. now in this sensor there is a transducer inbuilt in it. which is connected to the diaphragm . . that would be a strain guage.here diaphragm can alone be called as a sensor or the diaphragm and strainguage set up can also be called as a sensor because both of them are doing the same job. give you the value of pressure. like diaphragm giving its output as displacement and diaphragm and strainguage giving an output as change in resistance proportional to the pressure.

now strainguage is device which converts physical strain into electrical resistance. so this strainguage is acting like a transducer.

so as a whole .. all the transducers are sensors but all the sensors are not transducers.
