Difference between Shielded Power & Control cable termination

Suppose VFD to motor power cable shield to be grounded at VFD side, not at motor side. Similarly input power cable at VFD side not at switchgear side to avoid circulating currents But while connecting signal cables like AI, AO is the rule same or it shall be grounded at both ends Regards, Vijay

PISCEAN 2010 Diamond Member Joined: 4/23/2010 Last visit: 11/23/2024 Posts: 8092 Rating: (878)	Hello, The purpose of grounding shield is to provide pure/non-polluted signals to equipment, whether it is VFD, scale or controller etc. This shield grounding eliminates spikes, noise etc ie unwanted signals to ground. At VFD, proper careof grounding is taken, thus it is ensuered that EMC signals are fully grounded. On the other hand on power side, these signals EMC, will not have adverse effect on motors & switchgears. As such it is always recomended to connect shield to ground at the equipment side, let it be power & control. If user want to connect it to other side, care must be taken to avoid recirculation of signals. Hope this helps you.
