Difference Number of connection resources and Number of DP slaves

There I found Number of connection resources on DP=16 and DP slaves is 96. So my question is What is difference Number of connection resources and Number of DP slaves? (3X32=96). About connection resources - How many connections and communication jobs do SIMATIC S7-300 and S7-400 support simultaneously? There is nothing to do with numbers of DP slaves.
