Dear Experts,

Working as a freelancer, a client called me to take backup of a machine having M7 PLC control system and he wants to convert it to S7 in future.

I have never worked on M7 PLC's, I tried to search on net  but how to upload from this PLC, there is no information for upload, it is old PLC not supported by Siemens anymore, software is different etc etc is there.

Anyone having experience of handling such PLC, also any chance to take backup by any means.

Can we use Step 7 software to take backup of M7 ?

Is it possible to convert M7 to S7 ? Do it from the scratch or some chance to convert ?

Thanks for reply, I have read all the three manuals before putting the issue in forum, but unable to find upload options.

Am I missing anything , download is possible by simatic manager but no clue for upload.

Will look again in the manuals.

First, I am in no way an expert on M7 systems, but I have had to inerface with some old M7 controllers when I started to work with Siemens projects.

I suggest you look at the 3rd link proposed earlier, System Software for M7–300/400 Program Design, and examine chapter 7. You will find there a procedure to upload from a M7. Unfortunately, the only thing you can upload is a listing of S7 Objects developed for the M7; see the screenshot below to see what is available.

Since the M7 uses its own RTOS and C/C++ program blocks that are by definition compiled, you cannot access the blocks and procedures developed in that way through Step 7 programs. If your client cannot provide the program listings you will not get very far.
