garf123 Posts: 18 Rating: (0)	Hello experts, Anyone know where the checkbox is to disable type checking inside the TIA V11 software? Anyone know where is it in the older V5.4 +SP5software? I'm trying to resolve migration issues (moving a project from the old software to the new software). Type mismatch compiler errrors (" Actual data type Word does not fit the formal type INT of the formal parameter") are preventing migration. I've read a few posts that suggest there is a checkbox somewhere to disable the nuisance checking (nuisance because I'm use to Rockwell PLCs that do not do "type checking". Word and INT are both 16 bit!).

IEC check to disabled. Options >> Settings PLC programming >> General >> IEC check As described by the program's online documentation: This compatibility test can be carried out according to criteria that are more or less strict. If "IEC check" is activated, stricter criteria are applied. PS: also consider the "optimized block access" as unchecked when converting from Step 7 V5.x to Step 7 V10.x or V11.x. It would help us (to help you in return) if we knew what actions are flagged as problems. Is it MOVE or math instructions? I had "compatability" issues with data types within Step 7 V5.1 which resulted me using STL coding for that particular network. Maybe SCL coding for that network might work. Let us see what the experts has to say on this subject. Do let us know when you resolved your issue. Greetings. - William B.

It's for a S7-315 CPU and attached is a detailed screenshot what I am trying to do. For some reason the V11 will not let go of the "type checking" even though the IEC checkbox is unchecked. I feel your pain on adapting to the Step7-way of doing things. Even the US designed Siemens S7-200 and its Microwin software have something to teach the German driven PLCs and software. But you and I just adapt to what cards we are dealt with. I do wonder however how the new-kids-on-the-block will be able to cope with our "old" style programming when they get used to using GRAPH language.. Good luck with grinding those teeth and getting through your project. - William

garf123 Posts: 18 Rating: (0)	Yes, Wizard helped with ONE problem, but there are many more trust me. I'm not at all happy with the LAD editor, data type checking errors, and data type limitations. And I'm not going to list every problem here. But here's one for you since you seem interested: why can't Ichoose DINT on the input parameter for T_CONV in LAD (see screenshot) in V11? This Siemens support link showsa DINTbeing used in their examplehttp://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/48711306 It's stuff like this which makes this LAD editorhorrible in my opinion compared to others on the market. William_B Posts: 5225 Rating: (1203)	garf123 my friend, It seems as though you are having a truck load of troubles. The newest issue you showed me does not exist in my program. But then again it is Step 7 BASIC V11.0 SP1. I do not even know if it is (maybe) PLC specific. My version only handles S7-1200 PLCs. What version software do you have? [Help >> Installed software] What type of CPU do you have there? Do more info you give the more helpful the forum can be. Please try this out.. Make a new project using an S7-1200 PLC. Use a CPU 1212 firmware 2.x Try out your issue(s) there to see if it still appears there. I have tried and did not have those issues. Getting the service pack SP1 is a good idea. There is also an UPDATE 2 that goes on top of that. Make sure the upgrades are for your software (Professional?) Caution: TIA is a combination of softwares STEP 7 and WinCC. You need to upgrade both packages!! Seeing that I live in a "3rd world" country my internet connection is not great. So I went to the local Siemens here with a friendly smile; I stepped away with a DVD with the required upgrades. I'm not married to the Siemens brand, but I am sorry to hear your problems. Grind your teeth a little longer and allow the forum to help you where we can. Good luck. - William

Siemens Tech Support had me do a "Repair installation" from the CDROM (TIA V11 + SP1)last week to get rid of some SQL errors I was having on migration of projects from the old software(V5.4 + SP5). Perhaps I need to reinstall Update2 now, although the software still reports that Update2 is installed. I don't know.All I know is thatI think Siemens should rename "Migration" to "Migraine" because of how much of a hassle it is, unlike other PLCs like AB where it is much better (e.g. importing old APS and AI files into RsLx500 by just selecting File\Open\ *.ACH). @William: I tried your suggestion with using a 1200 V2.x (new project). The T_CONV does correctly offer that choice of a DINT there. That does little good to me inside my project(a migrated 315-2 DP V2.6 project). In fact, even on a new 315-2 DP V2.6 project, itdoes not offer the DINT choice.What that tells me is that the 315 cannotdo what I need it to do (convert DINT toeither STIME or TIME). Why do I need this? BecauseI want to be able totake a INT entry from my HMI and populate a timer preset in the PLC. THIS IS SUCH A COMMON TASK in the world of automation, yet this Siemens PLC/softwareapparently cannot handle it in LAD, unless you experts have an idea. And please don't suggest that I use a STIME or TIME or some strangeHMI entry object on my HMI because that is not what I prefer. I would prefer that they revise this link (https://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/llisapi.dll?func=cslib.csinfo&lang=en&objid=48711306&caller=view) and make it very clear that it is only good for the 1200 CPUs.
