Does CP-343-1 LEAN support ISO protocol?

I entered my IE MAC and IP. but when I compile the hardware configurations I get an error message says ( The module IE General has deselected the ISO protocol but the setting in the properties dialog of the station indicates that no S7RTM is installed on the PC station).. To be honest.. I don't know what S7RTM means, but I opened the IE settings and ticked the "Set MAC address/use ISO protocol" button.. I entered the same address above and It got compiled succesfully.. I dont' know if what I did is correct or wrong.. I still didn't complete the project yet to check. what I'm afraid of is I'm using CP-343-1 LEAN which as I know doesn't support ISO protocol.. Am I right?! Please advise.. Thanks alot.. Baher

J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (412)	Dear Baher, I admit I am not sure what Software you have installed, soI do not know what you do.Usually you use a HMI IE if you configure a HMI System within a SIMATIC Panel. Why do you use a IE General? I admit, I am a bit confused because if i configure a WinCC flexible RT (which as a S7 Runtime) you usually use the IE General, so I wonder what do you try to configure?? Do you use WinCC or WinCC flexible or what? Best regards J_Bell

I used before to deal with the MPI and I didn't have any problem.. This is the first time I'm trying to use the Ethernet.. I'm not able to compile the hardware configuration for the same error mentioned above.. can you help me step by step what to do ?! is there any special license I should have to do so.. like SIMATIC NET for example ..? please advise.. Thank you .. Baher

Jesper Pedersen Posts: 279 Rating: (30)	Hi. I think it is a very good question, and the FAQ is very unsatisfactory. The FAQ mentions 3 possibilities, namely: 1.Win CE based panel using HMI IE. 2.PC RT without S7RTM, using IE General and ISO protocol. 3.PC RTwith S7RTM, using IE General. The problem with option 2, is that you need to set a fixed MAC address, and how do you practically go about that ? In almost no application that I know of is it acceptable to make a runtime that is limited to exactly one single PC in the world. And Yes - according to the FAQ, both option 2 and 3 require you purchase Simatic Net. There is another option, not mentioned in the FAQ: 4. PC RT without S7RTM, using S7ONLINE. As of Flex 2007, it is possible to simply select Ethernet as the protocol in Flex, and then specify the connection parameters such as the IP address, rack and slot manually in the connection setup dialog. There is a catch though. Since this makes the flex project un-integratedwith the connected S7 PLC(even if it exists in the same STEP7 project.) there are no longer any symbols from the S7 PLC project ! An embarrashment for Siemensto my opinion. I absolutely hate to address tags absolutely, and find it unacceptable to have to do so in the year 2009. Routing is also not possible, etc. I cannot help suggesting this (if I do so enough times, maybe it will happen): Please let a Flex PC RT license release a Simatic PC Station with IE General. If OPCis to be used, a full Simatic Net license has to be purchased.This is a simple solution that will make everybody happy. Win-win, no ?

J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (412)	Dear Baher, the answer is yes. You will require at least a SOFTNET S7 Lean license to use WinCC flexible RT with the older WinCC flexible versions. This is comparable with the situation with WinCC. The first versions of this Software included an Ethernet driver but the latest versions do not include one anymore. Today the SIMATIC NET Software is required for interfacing these types of Software over Ethernet to a PLC. As mentioned the SOFTNET S7 Lean Software is the cheapest way but you may try it without the License for a short while, a view hours, too. ~~At least there is no way around the installation of the SIMATIC NET Software.~~ Best regards J_Bell

Jesper Pedersen Posts: 279 Rating: (30)	Ahem, J_Bell, I think that is not correct. See my previous post about "option 4". My latest installations of WinCC Flex RT works via ethernet and without Simatic Net. The problem, as I mention too, is that there are no symbols from the S7 project.

WinCC flexible specialists... and they say the FAQ I used is right until the WinCC flexible Edition 2007 was released. Nowadays this should be included. They will try to get this FAQ updated soon.
