I need to make a connection between C7 CPU 635 OP and  CPU 414-3 PN/DP. The C7CPU 635 has two racks: the one where the CPU is located has IM360 and another has IM361. CP 343 module is on the same rack as IM361. I need to make a connection between the 2 CPUs I mentioned.

Does IM360/361 support S7connection? It worked with TCP connection (when the CPu 414-3 still had the separate CP module too) but not with s7connection.

How do I connect these CPUs? (The CPU 414-3 does not have CP module anymore, we want to use the built in pn/io port)

You have 2 questions, basically.

1. can the IM 361 hold communictaion processors so hey can conect to the CPU from a remote rack?

The communication connection for open communication via the integrated Industrial Ethernet interface of the CPU is established to block FB65 "T_CON". FB65 "T_CON" is called in the S7 program of the CPU. In this case, there is no need to configure a communication connection in NetPro. The communication connection can be cleared down specifically by calling the block FB66 "T_DISCON

I agree that S7 connection is different, but that does not matter in your case.

The question is if the Im 361 can allow data exchange between the CPU and the CP in a remote rack.

It does.

Why do you not setup your harware and o create an S7 connection with that remote CP 343-1? That should dissipate all your doubts.

Not really. I know that TCP connection works with IM361 on a different rack than CPU. But will s7connection too? They are not the same. I can't use TCP protocol when using an onboard ethernet port but I can use the s7communication.
