in my opinion you can use different ways:

Datalogging at the Comfort-Panel and write the data to a csv-File

• Logging Process Values and Alarms with WinCC (TIA Portal)

Datalogging with a external system e.g.

• IBApda - there you can log the data without programming in your PLC
• you can also log more signals and can evaluate them

S7 write directly to a Excel-file

S7 to Excel - sorry it's a german website without english support

Thank you for your suggestion, if write data to csv use comfort panel. how long it can keep the data? because the data must logging 24 hours and everyday.

when you need the data over a long time then can I "only" suggest the IBApda.

It's very helpful software for long time data logging.

One of the advantages is that you have also a tool, called "IBA Analyzer" which you can evaluate very comfortable the data of your data logging.
The IBA Analyzer could used from anybody.
You can also create reports and more.

I use this tools since more than 15 years and they was everytime very helpful, during commisioning, for maintenance, searching for errors who occurs only sometimes and a lot of more.

Hi Sabrina,

If you have a Comfort panel then you can use the historical logging within WinCC to log either to an external USB pen drive or to an SD card.  If you go for the SD card option, you have to use Siemens’ own SD cards – standard ones you can buy from your local store won’t work – and they have a capacity of 2GB, which should give you plenty data.

There are some difficulties with it that I have learned from experience. The files have some formatting issues and often contain unexpected extra lines that make it very difficult to get a consistent result when importing into Excel, and very difficult to write a robust and reliable VBA macro to open and format them. Also, don’t open the files on the SD card. If you want to look at them, copy them off and inspect the copies. If you open the files on the SD card itself, then when you return it to the slot in the Comfort Panel, they won’t work anymore. The only way to get them working again is to delete them altogether and let the system recreate new ones.
